Ronaldinho Son Joao Mendes Signs For Barcelona Under-19

Brazil legend Ronaldinho’s son Joao Mendes has signed a contract with Barcelona’s under-19 team.

The 18-year-old striker follows in the footsteps of his legendary father in joining the Catalan club. Hopefully the weight of his dad’s legacy will not affect his development.

Ronaldinho, 42, won the World Cup with Brazil and spent five successful seasons at the Camp Nou but now works as ambassador for the Blaugrana since his retirement from active football in 2015.

During his time in Spain, the 2005 Ballon d’Or winner helped Barcelona win a Champions League and a back-to-back LaLiga titles.

Mendes had a trial with Cruzeiro keeping his father’s identity a secret before securing a deal. He has however decided to end his contract with the Brazilian Serie B side to join Barcelona’s academy.

He will be groomed in Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, known to have produced icons such as Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Barca manager Xavi
