Adena-Gyan Inspires Cremonese To Copa Italia Triumph Over Napoli

Cremonese put aside their Serie A struggles to shock highflying Napoli in Copa Italia showdown following penalty shootout triumph.

Ghana’s Felix Afena-Gyan headed home the equaliser in the dying embers before converting the decisive kick as defending champions Napoli are dumped out from the competition.

The Serie A bottom-placed side opened the scoring in the 13th minute through Charles Pickel but Juan Jesus equalised for Napoli after 20 minutes before Giovanni Simeone doubled the lead seven minutes to halftime.

Luciano Spalletti’s side’s devastating form in the Italian top-flight did little to scare the relegation threatened outfit as they fought back in style and left it late.

With just three minutes remaining on the clock, former Roma teenage sensation Felix Afena-Gyan rose above everyone in the penalty box and thumped home the equaliser to force extra time.

Cremonese were reduced to 10 men in extra-time after Leonardo Sernicola was shown a second yellow but the visitors managed to hold on to take the game to penalties.

Stanislav Lobotka missed Napoli’s fourth kick while Cremonese converted all five of their spot-kicks to book a place in the last eight.
