EPL: Chelsea Announce The Signing Of 21-year-old Benoit Badiashile From Monaco
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of 21-year-old Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile on long term deal worth £35million.
Chelsea have been in the market for a left-sided centre-back for quite some time and have been linked with Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol before opting for the Frenchman.
Badiashile — who was left out of Monaco’s New Year’s Day Ligue 1 clash against Brest has now completed his medical and transfer after arriving in the capital.
“I’m very happy to be here at Chelsea. I’m so excited to start playing for this club. I can’t wait to see the fans and start playing in the best league in the world.” he told the club website.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome Benoit to Chelsea, he’s an excellent young player who has quickly established a strong reputation for himself and has a huge amount of experience for his young age.”
The young defender attracted interest from the likes of Newcastle, West Ham and Seville but injury hampered his move away from the Ligue 1 side.
He will compete with Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana for the central defensive positions at Stamford Bridge.
