The Lionesses Are 2022 UEFA Euro Champions
England have won the 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro title for the first time in history at the expense of Germany with the Lionesses clinching their first ever Euro title and that of England since the 1966 men’s World Cup.
The Lionesses had a packed Wembley behind them chanting every kick, flick or trick as they cruised to victory in a nerve wracking encounter.
England looked assured on the ball and controlled possession in most part of the first half. They took the game to their opponents with Ellen White and Beth Mead making some incursions in front of goal.
Believe surged through the veins of the Germans in the second half — they turned on the style and held the game by the scruff of the neck as they seek to unnerve the home side. Tabea Waßmuth and Lina Magull came close to drawing first blood.
Ella Toone broke the stalemate with a sumptuous chip just outside the box but Magull equalized in the 79th minute to drag the game to extra time.
The suspense could be felt in extra time. Chloe Kelly who came on in the second half toe-pokes home from a corner to ensure the Lionesses crossed the finish line.
