2022 Women’s AFCON: South Africa Edge Host Nation Morocco To Win First Title
South Africa have beaten host nation Morocco 2-1 to win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in their nation’s history.
The Banyana Banyana prevailed over Morocco to clinched their first ever WAFCON trophy after falling short in four previous finals.
Two goals from Hilda Magaiah which came in quick succession in the second half ensured Desiree Ellis’ side crossed the finish line.
Morocco attempted a possible comeback but time was not just enough for the drama. Rosella Ayane reduces the deficit for the Atlas Lionesses with just 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
South Africa held on as the home supporters tried to cheer their players up for the equalizer.
Morocco’s quest for a host and win didn’t materialized but the silver lining in their beautiful story is that they have made it all the way to the final for the first and can only get better.
