Portugal beat Switzerland 6-1 , World Cup 2022
Coach Fernando Santos replaced Cristiano Ronaldo with Goncalo Roman and was rewarded with a hat-trick against Switzerland in the World Cup.
Pepe, Raphael Guerreiro and Rafael Leao also scored a goal each while Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji hit the net to pull one back for Switzerland.
Portugal will face Morocco in the next face of the competition ( quarter final) after their impressive victory over Switzerland — with either reigning world champions France or England waiting in the next stage.
Goncalo Ramos who came in later with more fresh energy scored a superb hat-trick for Portugal after the coach Santos replacing Cristiano Ronaldo in starting line-up against Switzerland.
An impressive 6-1 win puts Portugal into the World Cup quarter-finals, where they will face Morocco coming Saturday. The winners there will face England or France for a place on December 18 final.
After Ronaldo was dropped to the bench, The Portugal players played much more with freedom we never saw in their previous three matches in Qatar World Cup competitions.
The Benfica forward Ramos was their standout performer, he impressed everyone with his performance opened the scoring and adding two more goals after half-time. Pepe, Ronaldo’s replacement as captain also scored one , Raphael Guerreiro and Rafael Leao were also on the scoresheet. On Switzerland side, Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji scored consolation goal.
